Stargate Novels

oops
Okay, I admit it--I can't stop buying Stargate stuff. Especially Stargate novels. Of course, my one, lone bookstore that used to carry them (I think just for me, even though they didn't know who was buying their one copy of all of the Stargate books) no longer has new ones... but apparently, you can buy them as Kindle books!

YAY.

However, I'm a little shy about buying them without recommendations. Is anyone else still reading them? If not, I'll just bite the bullet and pick up a couple of the ones I haven't read yet--probably Transitions and Oceans of Dust, since those are the next ones. Then I can do reviews. Mwa ha ha!

I'm pretty sure Sabine Bauer and Julie Fortune were both fic writers, and wrote good stuff before going pro.

Yeah. I can't always keep them all straight, but I'm glad they are using people who were in the fandom.

I have read them all up til Transitions which was very good. I'd also recommend Sunrise and forget Four dragons and Power Behind the Throne they were something bad. :\

I am still behind myself with Oceans of Dust. The Drift and Heart's Desire.

I didn't even know they were online! I'm quite happy about this. :-D

And I believe Pepper has already told me to forget about those two. This is one of the many reasons I love fandom.

Check out pepper_field's journal -- look for the tag for a really good set of reviews (sadly not comprehensive). You may need to friend the journal, as I think all the reviews are f-locked: she's very frank about what she thought was both good and bad.

Personally, I've been mostly disappointed, but I think my standards are overly high -- I'll cut slack for fanfic, but I get really picky for pro.

I think Sacrifice Moon is OMG AWESOMESAUCE and I'd rec it anywhere and everywhere.

The others I've tried (not many, I confess), I've bogged down on. They were clearly written by Jack-centric fangirls, of which I am one, but when I pay for a Stargate book I expect the rest of the team to be actual characters, written in character, y'know? But as I said, I'm way too hard to please in this.

Yeah, Pepper has a lot of them... I've actually been bumming off her reviews since the beginning, but she hasn't done the latest ones. I like her reviews because I know she shares my taste and then I don't have to read ones I wouldn't like anyway. :-)

I have three. I read Sacrifice Moon and I have Sunrise still and I'm reading Barque of Heaven now and taking my time. I like it but I like cant believe how slashy it is that I just gotta savor every chapter I guess. I always have to text gingasaur and be like whaaaaaaaat did they just say that, did that really just happen?

I've read those three! I do enjoy that there's quite a bit more subtext/sometimes actual text about ships. :-)

Hmmm. That does seem a little odd, but the books do tend to focus on one or two of the characters over others. I don't think I've read that one yet, though.

I would recommend Heart's Desire (it's a little cliche in parts but solid from the proofs I read), and I would recommend Moebius Squared (when it comes out?) SO HARD to everyone I ever knew, associated with, and was friends with in SG1 fandom!

Basically, it's the full team-y goodness...twice over! And Oh and Eee and WOW and What and EEEK and AMAZEBALLS.

...it may possibly hit just about every fanfic kink I ever had. And it was well-written and enjoyable and twisty and ERMAGHERD.
