Nanowrimo and Recs

I don't know how many of you have used or want to use Scrivener. It's a writing program for the Mac, one that I've heard about but haven't used. Anyway, right now they're doing a special promotion for NaNoWriMo, where the free trial lasts from now until December 7, and if you win NaNo, you get 50% off. You can get the details here.

Two Recs:

[info]rowan_d wrote a STARGATE fic. Like Fire on Wind, which is broken Sam and angsty and lovely. It's Sam/Jack, although I felt it could possibly be read as friendship, (as long as you read everyone in love with everyone else, like I do). Rowan took Sam's tendency to pessimism and wove it into a fic where Sam is alienated from the team by her own feelings and actions.

The second one is a much older fic--really a series, but I just re-read it and just...love it to pieces. [info]cofax7's This is Not Wartime. OT3 (Sam/Jack/Daniel) apocafic set after season 7, where the team is all broken and adrift and trying desperately to eke out a victory against the Goa'uld who have conquered Earth.

I love Scrivener. I almost love it for my academic papers even more than for my fics (and I love it for fics). Highly recommended!

I also love and highly recommed "This Is Not Wartime" but it definitely serves a different purpose :)

Hee. Today it served the purpose of keeping me nicely distracted from a low-level headache and some really nasty portfolio calculations.

[coughs] I've decided to take the plunge this year. Do you use your "holdouttrout" screenname there or something else? And if I do this, would you consider being one of my writing buddies? [gulps]

Okay, I'll trying again.

[coughs] I've decided to take the plunge this year. Meep? Do you use your LJ screenname there, or do people use their own names or something else? And if I really go through with this, might you consider being one of my writing buddies? [gulps]

Welcome to the insanity! Mwa ha ha!

I do use my lj name on the nano site--I'm either reliable or boring that way. *g* And yes, I'll be one of your writing buddies! The first year, Annerb and I did writing sprints via AIM, which was very helpful for those days when you just didn't know what to write, or how to say it--you just had to write or die! (Write or Die, actually, if it's still around, is also a great tool. As long as you keep typing, you're safe... *twitches nervously*)

Oh, and one more little piece of spam herein: Thanks for pointing me to Scrivener! I'm looking forward to playing with it.

Me, too! (I forgot to answer this up-thread.) It looks like a really neat program, and I like the extended trial idea.

Thank you for the lovely rec!

Also, I bought Scrivener and it's kind of awesome although rather more complicated than I need at the moment.

I'm not sure all the complicated bits are going to be what I really need right now, but I'm excited to play with it anyway.
